Unseemly Goings On

Last week was the biggest sale of the year for the Friends of the Library.  Unfortunately our sale was scheduled on the same day as another group who have recently adopted books sales as a fundraiser.

Our leader approached the other group and suggested we join forces.
They weren't interested.
Ever reasonable she suggested each group display the posters from the other sale at their event.
They liked that.
In due course they sent over the posters-in big letters it announced We Have The Best Prices.
"and we have the best books" I snapped, pen poised to add the slogan to our posters. I'm wise enough to know an action like that would only make things worse so I commanded my hand to drop the pen.

On the day of the sale our ever reasonable leader kept to the agreement. I sent a spy over to the other camp. Just as I suspected no mention of us.

Well, if you can't play dirty, and reasonable leader won't let me, you better play smart. I won't be going into detail here just in case.......

Set up-husbands come in very handy

  1. Honestly? They couldn't share the spotlight? It is rather disheartening....although I am dying to know how you evaded the barriers.... :)

    1. Thank you Elaine. The initial impulse was powerful but mercifully short.

    1. I doubt they feel anything needs to be sorted out. Our group will be choosing a new path.

    1. I haven't done anything...yet. The plan is to become more innovative. We have two creative events planned and intend to keep mixing it up. It has been good for us, we are excited and motivated.

    1. I love book sales and if I were not volunteering at one I would have probably gone to the other.

  6. What a lot of very bad sports in that other group. I hope your sale went very well and that whatever action you took produced the results you needed!

    1. It went well. We have been forced to think outside the box. It is turning out to be a good thing.

  7. Oh dear, I would love to know what you did, you need to spill your secret :)

  8. Glad the hand obeyed the command to cease. In light of your Good Will Seeds concern, it was the right response. It's hard to be peaceful, especially inside ourselves, when the mind churns with options, some good and some not so good. What creative alternatives for fundraising did your group come up with?

  9. It's hard to imagine book lovers being so dishonorable! It was probably just the idea of one immature individual, not the whole group. I'm glad your book sale went well in spite of the other group's deception!

  10. Too bad when people cannot work together and want to grab it all for themselves...selfish and karma will bite them...I like that you are going to be innovative.
