Sunny Days

The bang of the screen door behind me signals another day in warm sunshine. A variety of seeds have been tucked into the soil: larkspur, cosmos, cornflower, nigella, wildflower mix, borage, carrots, beets, lettuce, spinach and radishes. Leeks and cabbage sit patiently in the sun room for their turn. The humming birds have returned, bees dance around wild salmonberry and the frog chorus lulls me to sleep.

For the first time in three years there is blossom on the cherry trees.

I have slaved over these trees since we took over the property. There better be cherries.

The peas are hanging on

ignore the weeds-I am.

We have new neighbours.

They have cut down a great number of trees-this is one of three piles.  There is significantly more light on our property. The bed at the side of the house, where roses languished in deep shade, will now get afternoon sun. My plans to relocate them are on hold.

I'm sure this lovely time is just a teaser and gloomy skies will return but what's to do but enjoy every minute.

I wish you the best of luck with your cherry tree. It's hard waiting for that crop.

    1. It reminds me of the Frog and Toad story-when they discover Spring is just around the corner.

  6. Everything there is so lush and lovely. Such a verdant place to live and enjoy nature. Nice to hear your hummers are there now. We are still waiting here in the high desert of Oregon - I have two of six feeders out just in case a hummer buzzes in to visit.

  9. My peas and beans just went in last week. Hope they look as good as yours soon. I made plastic mesh cages for them to keep the woodrats out. They usually show up about now to take advantage of my new sprouts. - Margy

    1. Peas are getting over the shock of transplanting but they don't like the hot weather we are having-can't win.

  10. Finally we have some nice weather here and it feels as though spring has arrived at last. I have yet to plant any seeds, so you are well ahead of me. How nice it is that you won't have to move the roses. Hope you get some cherries. The flowers look promising!

    1. I think I might have been a little too early with some of the seeds. Time will tell.
