Supervision ?

After a summer of high energy fun with visitors and puppies, and canning season upon us, I mentioned to my husband I was feeling a bit drained. Or he might have clued in when
I had a meltdown over the fishing gear, picnic supplies and a crate of apples holding down the lid of the washer when I needed to do laundry.

I'm the designated early riser in our partnership. Usually I have 90 minutes of puppy search and destroy prevention, while desperately fitting in slug hunting, garden watering and kitchen organising, before my better half staggers down the stairs. This morning he made a super human effort to join me on the early morning shift. Much appreciated even if shortly he was asleep on the sofa. I've never tried this method of puppy supervision.

Knock me over with a feather (or dog hair)! The little darlings went into Greyfriars Bobby mode and kept vigil on either side.

What is it about men they can get away with this kind of stuff?

Bear update:

The bear picked as high as he could reach from the ground and left the rest of the apples for us. We got off lightly as next door he, or another bigger and smarter bear, climbed a tree and the weight snapped the crown from the trunk.

Next up:

three cords of wood waiting to stacked in the shed

  1. Glad to hear the bears left you alone. I am the early riser in my house too although I think hubby honestly does far more than me (hes type A personality and I am not). Yesterday he mowed the lawn front and back, weed wacked, took a walk with the dog and I, washed and dried 2 vehicles and did the dishes when my headache wouldn't go away.

    1. I am a compulsive planner and organiser. Early mornings are my thinking time although the pups now sabotage it.

  2. I always get up hours before hubby--it is MY time.....

I'm glad to hear the bear left your tree alone---and that you didn't have any run-ins. That would be scary!

    1. I've always enjoyed the peace and quiet of early mornings. The pups don't do peace and quiet but no doubt I'll figure out a way to reclaim it.

  3. I too, am the early riser. I jump out if bed, quickly getting my morning chores done, sitting down once they're complete to have my breakfast. The others roll out of bed, and onto the couch.

    1. My son was a couch sitter-practically sleep walking for the first 30 mins of the day-soo much fun trying to get him ready for school every day.

  4. I don't think I could function without my early mornings. I think pups (dogs, cats, kids) are drawn to anyone on the furniture. As soon as I sit down, I am surrounded. That's not a bad idea for you and your early morning pup control - just have your husband stumble down and collapse on the sofa. They can keep him company and you can go about your routine with a jig in your step.

  5. Thanks for dropping by my blog Susan, I do recall Brits call their aprons a pinnie. :-)
I support an Ontario bear sanctuary that is doing its best to educate people to live in harmony with bears that are heading further south every year in search of food. Glad your furry visitor left some apples for you.
Haha, I am a list person and need them right on the kitchen counter so I remember to accomplish what needs to be done. And, I'm an early riser to get things underway so I can relax in the afternoon.

    1. I'm a list gal. Humans have messed things up for the bears, normally our guys would go back to the high country for fruit, now ripening there, but it is so much easier to hang around someone's orchard.

  6. You seem to be a fun person including your other half in your posts. No bears here in the southern part of New Jersey yet still find this blog interesting.
