Box Of Sunshine

Recently, I was the recipient of a give away from Lesa at Percolating Today. It arrived in a sunny yellow box, so I knew it was a gift of sunshine.

The book is a collection of garden essays by women writers. The type of book where the writing is so good it makes your toes curl.

Accompanying it was a note book and coloured pens. Note books are my lifeline, I always have one at hand for jotting down ideas, or websites or yes, I admit it, snippets of overheard conversations.

I really hoped to get the tin. It is similar to one we had on our kitchen counter for years, the poor thing was worn out and didn't make it into a packing box. I am so happy to have a replacement.

The tin was all I thought I was winning. Everything else was a complete surprise. Lesa must have ESP. It's as if we shared a lifetime of hopes and dreams and secrets of the heart.

Lesa has the gift of writing as if you really are sat across from her, drinking coffee, in her farmhouse kitchen.

Do you have family and friends who are incredibly special to you? How about making up a little box of sunshine for them? What kind of box would you make?

Read about sunshine boxes at the Happy Money Saver and get free printables too.

  2. I've read about sunshine boxes before and had forgotten about them. Great idea. I love the quote about gardening at the top of your blog -- so true.

    1. Another of my favourites from FBH is
"Where you tend a rose, my lad, a thistle cannot grow."

  4. Hello! I'm so glad the box arrived and that you like the goodies. Thank you for the sunshine box idea and link but, most of all, thank you for your kind words. I do feel as if I'm writing to a friend when I post, so I'm glad you can tell from my words. I hope you hear some interesting tales to write in your notebook. Like, once upon a time in the food court of a mall, a friend and I noticed two women listening to our conversation and, without missing a beat or dropping a phrase, my friend and I began spinning an outrageous tale for them to hear. What fun that was! Enjoy!

    1. I wish I had been there. Or maybe it was me eavesdropping. Your writing has a real warmth to it. Thanks again for the really lovely gift.

  5. I too keep journals everywhere. I am always jotting down bits of conversations overheard. I've read several well-known authors do the same. Have a wonderful week. Bonnie

    1. I like to go through my old ones every now and then. Sometimes ideas I discarded now seem workable or at least remind me of thoughts I once had.

  6. Hi Susan,

What a wonderful box of goodies! I really like notebooks too even though we are in the age of computers I still like to write things down the old fashioned way. You mentioned a book of lilacs on my blog by Louisa May Alcott. I have not read it, but will do a search on it. Thanks again for stopping to visit me.

    1. Notebooks do seem old fashioned but I can jot something down more quickly than on an electronic device. It is prettier too.

  7. Hi Susan, what a wonderful gift to receive. The little box of sunshine is a lovely idea. I have sent hampers with assorted goodies to friends and family for special occasions, but this is nice because it's unexpected. I think i would put in lots of small things, and wrap everything separately in attractive paper. I adore notebooks too.

    1. Being creative is one of the joys of sending a box. Originally the contents were meant to be yellow but I'm way passed that.

  8. I have a very close friend that I've often sent goofy care packages to. She never knows what she's going to get. Your package sounds wonderful. :o)

    1. I am currently creating one for a friend. She has just had major surgery so I'm being fairly restrained. I don't want her laughing too hard in case she bursts her stitches.
