We Bought A House
The search is finally over-we bought a house! Did I once say we were giving up our dreams of farm life? The right house and location just happens to be on five acres. Bonus! or completely nuts. How could we say no to a little red barn
and kitchen garden?
There is also a chicken coop and pheasant pen. Oh, and a swamp..... I'm hoping it will become my water garden and not a major headache.
We are at the inspection stage, please keep your fingers crossed for us.
Thanks, Rosemary. A sense of calm washed over me when I first viewed it. The work involved may take some of the shine off, but for now I'm tingling with excitement.
Put toughnut goldfish into those swamp waters, and you'll manage the mosquito problems. Think of the fabulous plants you can grow in that! Make sure there are no weird issues with water rights that mean your neighbors can object to anything you do with the swamp!
Five acres is a little bit daunting. We intend to develop it slowly. I'll be reading your fruit tree posts closely as there are apple and cherry trees on the property.
Yes I will Dorothy. We had to jump on a plane about sixteen hours after our offer was accepted and I won't see it again for two weeks. It is beginning to seem unreal.
Very observant. It was built with passive solar principles. There is a brick wall in the centre to absorb heat from light coming in through the windows on the south side.
It looks awesome. Even if you're a little stretched for money now, in a few years it will all even out. I can't imagine NOT living on acreage and having privacy. Good luck! ~Diane
Thanks for the wise words, Diane. I'm also thinking the extra we paid was what it took to get the barn, meadow etc which of course are the things that make our hearts sing.
Hi Susan! I have been gone a while.(work )As I return I discover you have bought a home. I am envious! 5 acres..kitchen garden..red barn. What a charmer!! I look forward to reading your posts about your new adventure! Congrats!! Dianna
What a beautiful home, Susan! I know you will enjoy your gardens and home and red barn! If I had 5 acres and a barn, horses would be part of the picture for sure!
Crossing my fingers very tightly for you - it all looks absolutely idyllic.

ReplyDeleteThxs for the tips Mary. I hadn't thought about water rights. The complexities of rural life in BC is quite the learning experience.
DeleteLooks great! Good luck - 5 acres is what we've got and it's a nice size.

DeleteI hope everything works out and you get that pretty house and barn. Five acres, wow!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel a slight wave of panic when I think of five acres. More than half is still forest and has some nice trails through it.
DeleteMy fingers are crossed for you guys!! Wow is that an outstanding piece of property!! Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the finger crossing. I'm getting so anxious it feels like all my internal organs are crossed too.
DeleteOh, I hope it works out...it looks perfect! I hope you will soon be posting more photos of that lovely place!

DeleteFingers crossed down here for you! It looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I never imagined we would find something so lovely.
DeleteHow exciting! It looks lovely:)
ReplyDeleteOnce we move in I'm sure reality will hit and I will feel overwhelmed. Until then I am enjoying being excited.
DeleteFingers crossed, and congrats!! Very nice... the house looks like a passive solar design, a good thing in those colder months. : )

DeleteWow - it looks amazing - do you want a lodger?
ReplyDeleteI think we will need a lodger. We threw caution to the wind and blew the budget.
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous... I'd love to have a red barn! Cheers~
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it when we saw the barn. There is a loft too.

Deleteoh Susan, congratulations! I hope the sale goes through. How very exciting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane. I'm trying to organise the inspections from Calgary. I can't wait to get back.
DeleteHooray for you! The search is finally over. :o) Your property looks incredible! Are you going to raise chickens or pheasants?
ReplyDeleteMaybe chickens. Thinking about a couple of sheep for the meadow.
