Finnegan is the barn cat we accidentally bought with the farm. You may remember we got an icy reception.
Things have warmed up considerably since we went from this
followed by days of stone picking, digging and adding compost to create this,
an awesome Disneyland version of the litter box.
Finnegan told me his previous owners were rubbish compared to us and he can't believe he put up with them for so long. This was before he dug up the carrots and we were still speaking.
Our fall/winter garden is a by the seat of the pants effort. Lacking any netting or other sophisticated barrier I came up with the following solution,
The Stick Garden. Try squatting on that, Finnegan!
I love this second crop, overwintering scheme of planting. Turnips and carrots are waiting for a warm straw blanket. Peas and beans are beginning to flower.
Beet greens are providing super nutrients to our salads.
We are not unpacked but who cares.
Finnegan reminds me of my Oliver. I tried sticking bamboo skewers into my container plants, but the other neighborhood cats still managed to find a way to do their business. Your method is quite clever! And your veggies are looking vey healthy!

DeleteYour priorities are spot-on! And I love the stick garden - it almost looks sculptural (if that's a word). Let's hope it has the wished-for effect on Finnegan. He's quite the handsome cat, by the way.
