Flood

Thank goodness for a warm and cozy night under the duvet because the next day we woke to six inches of water in our basement/crawl space. The torrential rain had overwhelmed our drainage system. We have two cisterns and a dry pond but it was the back up system which failed. By back up system I mean the ditch to which all pipes eventually lead. Digging through mud while being lashed by stinging rain is not the most fun I have ever had. My husband managed to suck out the water from the basement with the shop vac. The concrete is still wet, we have heaters and a dehumidifier running. My hairdresser suggested bags of kitty litter so we will pick some up today.

This is the ditch now flowing nicely. It will dry out in the summer and you can bet upgrades are planned.

  2. Oh my goodness friend...I did not see this post! I am so sorry to hear of your flooding as I know all to well about that here. I am glad you were able to get it out of the basement. And I can relate to the digging in mud thing as when we were flooding last year my husband and I were outside with buckets scooping up water to help relieve our drains. I will be praying for you guys...... I hope that you have a clear bright week ahead...one filled with good things!! You take care and do keep us updated! Nicole

    1. The sun came out briefly yesterday and I made sure I was standing in its warmth. If you have any tips on drying out the basement I would be glad of them.
