Finnegan And The Red Giant

Finnegan, the cat, and I are on the outs. While removing the frost protection from some of the spring bulbs, I was viciously attacked from behind in a frenzy of bared claws. I have recreated the scene for you below.

what Finnegan saw

Finnegan

There are people, some claiming to love me, who have been very unkind about the housecoat. Despite what they say it is not threadbare or held together by bits of fried egg.

I retired bleeding to the house, the not threadbare housecoat having provided no protection. Screamed for help from the Doc, who being an astronomer is absolutely useless in a medical emergency. Fortunately if I shout loudly enough and call him some unflattering names I can get the basics of treatment out of him.

Why would Finnegan attack me?  I have two theories;

1. I was contemplating taking him to the vet because he had seemed a bit lethargic. Ha ha proved wrong on that one.

2. He reacts whenever I walk over to a certain spot at the edge of the meadow. Runs after me mewing  constantly and waits, getting more and more vocal, until I move away. When he attacked me I was paying no attention to him whatsoever. Was he desperate to get me to move? Is there something lurking in the forest close to that spot? I have no idea.

  2. He does look angry. Maybe he buried some of his cat toys there.

  3. Maybe he wanted you out of that spot because he was scared something bad would happen to you there. Funny story. I he you're not too injured.

  4. Or...maybe he thought you were going to unearth some buried mice.

  5. Housecats can be pretty lethal. If he is getting up in years perhaps some of his reasoning skills are starting to go..... our elderly mother cat would randomly bat at us when we walked by her Throne on the ironing board.

  6. I have never heard of a cat attacking anyone before - if you had been wearing my housecoat, very cosy with a leopard skin appearance, I could have understood it.

  7. My goodness!!! I hope you are ok?!? Nothing worse than cat claws! Hmmm I am wondering if there is something out there that he senses or he is being territorial of something. So very strange!! Well needless to say you did give me a chuckle with this one!!! A wonderful weekend to you! Nicole xoxo

  8. Finnegan sounds like he was in a bad mood or he does not like your housecoat:) B

  9. I think one of your Housecoat Haters put him up to it!

  11. He looks a bit grumpy - perhaps you will have to put up 'Beware of the cat' signs.

  12. One of our itinerant neighborhood cats (they have homes but like to visit ours) sometimes swats me on the bottom when I am finsihed gardening. I guess he likes my company and doesn't want me to go inside! Cats can be funny, and your post made me smile!

  13. I think a photo of you on the rear of your attire should prevent further attacks. He'll think you're always looking at him. :-)

  14. There is nothing wrong with your housecoat! I have one almost exactly like it... Cat behaviour is indecipherable. I have one that wraps himself around my ankles, purring like mad (and usually while I am trying to walk), but will hiss at me if I try to pet him.

  15. Finnegan does not look like a cat I'd want to annoy. So curious about that spot in the meadow. Maybe he's trying to protect you from kitty monsters or other invisible beasties.

  16. Cats have their own reasons for doing things. And I don't see anything wrong with that bathrobe! I have one that is 20 years old and still does very well thank you very much!
