The Joy Of Spring

At this time of year I'm falling asleep to the sound of frogs and waking to birdsong. I can't believe how lucky I am to have my day bookended in such a fashion.

I found some robin's egg shells. They are thrown far from the nest after the babies hatch to mislead predators. It is nice to know I have baby robins somewhere. Maybe several nests if all the robins I see are raising families.

Talking of nests have you seen the ones Vicki Boster from 2 Bags Full creates?

Vicki is the creative soul behind my favourite blog hop and the pink scarf project. I am constantly in awe of her sweet nature and generous heart. Now she has come up with an amazing give away to celebrate Spring. One of her limited edition nests is on offer plus many, many other beautiful items. She is perfectly O.K. with us inviting friends to join in. If I don't win I hope you do.

    1. I'd love to know more about egg colours. The robin's certainly isn't for camouflage.

  3. I found a robins egg in my grass a while back and can only hope the babies emerged safely since I never found the nest. The crafted nest is beautiful!

  5. What a lovely crafted nest that is! It wouldn't survive in my house unless it was behind locked glass. I was just thinking last night, how lovely it is to go to sleep to the symphony of peepers!

  6. I would be a bit overwhelmed by the nest too but there are also sturdier gifts on offer.

  7. Your photo of the robin egg reminded me of the duck eggs I found in the garden this week. Six of them in a nest near my "Bog Garden" pond. Like you I hope they survive the territory. JC

  8. I didn't know that about the egg shells, but it does make sense. They aren't such "bird brains" after all! I'm glad you are enjoying the joys of spring!

  10. I have a robin that visits my float garden regularly. Hopefully she (he?) is eating the bad bugs and not any of the worms I want to keep in my soil. What kinds of nests do robins build? - Margy

  11. How cool! I love watching the robins around here doing the dance, one year pointed to the ground looking for grubs and worms.
