Possessed And Trying Harder

Yesterday we officially took possession of our little farm. I thought I'd share some pictures of the occasion, taken by the lovely M.

Inaugural door unlocking
After 100 posts I thought it was time I appeared.

taken from upper floor of the barn
I was tempted to say the model like person in this shot was me. It is my fabulous daughter L.

we discovered a little house for  elves

a suitably rustic shot to send to city friends (who all think we have taken leave of our senses)

The hydrangeas should be flowering. I wonder if last years buds were trimmed off in an unfortunate
pre-selling tidy.

Life is hectic. We move furniture in two days. Four extra, much loved people visiting.  Regardless, I'm managing to read one or two blogging friend's posts every night, however comments are, for the most part, beyond me. You are keeping me balanced.

As for naming, I was coasting along nicely, counting votes for the two favourites. Then  Linnie W at Women Who Run With Delphiniums told me to buck up and try harder, which may not sound like it but was an act of kindness and I'm very grateful. Soo... I'm running this one by you.

Tesseract

No explanations yet. I want to see if  any of you understand it. As in-Mother we told you no more strange names. You are going to have to explain it to Everybody.
I picked a Latin name for our last house-Pastor Pastorum-which I hope means House of Shepherds, it was supposed to indicate: 1. I was the shepherd of  my nature friendly backyard and 2. Any lost lamb would be taken in, of course they would not know this unless they could read Latin so maybe I should have made that a bit clearer. Anyway the kids felt they were identified as the ones with the weird mother and have obviously, if their recent comments are anything to go by, been affected for life.

Happy blogging.

  1. Beautiful house and property. May you have many years of enjoyment there!
Re the name - it's a bit obscure for my taste, though my mathematics-lover husband might appreciate it. I'm more old-fashioned, perhaps, because I like names that say a little more about the house or the land or the feeling that one has from either.

    1. You are correct with the mathematics reference and as my husband dreams in equations it was a nod to him. It has another meaning too which fits with my personality and how I feel about the farm.

  4. To me your home conjures up so much more than a cube!!! If I was you I would stick with your first thoughts. It all looks lovely, and it will be good to see what you do with the garden over time.

    1. I think I may wait until we have lived there for a while. When I'm accustomed to it's rhythm a name will come.

    1. Thank you Donna. From a mathematical point of view a tesseract has some intriguing qualities.

  7. Tesseract???? Are you a Madeline L'Engle fan? A Wrinkle in Time is my favorite book. I think the name is obscure but perfect! You've traveled to another time and place, so the name fits. You can always nickname the house Tess. :o)

  10. Hi Susan
Gosh the new place is fabulous--you must be so happy! And I totally get how much it meant to have one bit of garden started. Are there solar collectors on that portion of roof, or is that a window? Wish I could come by for a tour!

I too recognized 'tesseract' immediately, from A Wrinkle in Time. Like Tammy it is one of my FAVORITE books forever! Tesseract Farm? I like it! (Watch for Mrs. Whatsit on stormy nights...) Oh I am so excited for you Susan, a magical new life!

    1. No solar collectors but I was thinking of running some water pipes over the top. The house is passive solar, sun comes in through the roof and hits a brick wall in the centre of the house. We have lots of stormy nights, I will let you know who blows in.

  11. Look at all those windows! Your house looks wonderful. I'm so happy you're moved. It's been eons since I read A Wrinkle In Time so I'm going to Google Tesseract.
