The Family That Works Together....

All mother's create their own phrases which become woven into the family matrix.

One I consider particularly useful is 'I didn't go through 12 hours of labour to end up shovelling my own sidewalk". It is designed to send your teenager out to shovel twelve inches of wet snow, in frostbite inducing weather, so you don't have to change out of your PJs.

This summer I refined it to good effect:

that's my girl!

he installed a screen door-so needed since we have horses next door
and trimmed the hedge and cleared brush for the chicken run

and mixed some cement to install my rotary line
and he had the good sense to marry an accomplished cook
-I didn't make him the man he is so I could cook my own supper
we put the little one on bear patrol
I love you so much I have to let you stack wood or some such hooey
I wish I could say I was on the deck with a cool glass of lemonade while all this was going on but of course it never works out that way. One has to prepare picnics and play games and have quiet conversations while drying dishes......

  1. It is good to have busy hands - especially when they belong to someone else. Good job in getting the family to pitch in.

    1. My kids were born with a good work ethic. I thank the wonderful paternal grandparents. I have a lazy gene I'm constantly having to fight.

  6. Nice to have a helpful family. Wayne and I are it, no relatives to speak of any more. My grandma always said, "Another county heard from" when someone had something to say. - Margy

    1. We are fortunate to have our children. Our little family was very much on its own. Friends have taken the place of family, I hope it has for you too.
