Christmas Moon

Christmas doesn't have to be packed with parties and gifts or even family to be good. A walk on the beach under a full moon was simply perfect.

The tide was out, We  picked our way through bleached driftwood illuminated by moonlight. We dragged our boots through tidal pools and played in the shadows of large rocks. We followed the curving lines of rippled sand from one promontory to the another. We inhaled the frosty air and our bodies tingled with the freshness of it.

We shared the beach with a handful of people and dogs.  Drawn together by a sense of  meaning and wonder we exchanged heartfelt greetings.

  1. That sounds like heaven, Susan! I bet you enjoyed every memorable moment of it. I was sitting at the dining room table, enjoying dinner with the family when I noticed out the window, uncharacteristically bright clouds in the northeast sky. Before long, the moon rose up, through the clouds right on cue. What a beautiful gift our moon was this Christmas. Here's to enjoying the many gifts of nature in 2016.

  2. Same Christmas under the same full moon, yet we are very different... We're not allowed dogs on our beach after 9am to protect the Hooded Plovers and it was really hot - it's lovely to hear about your Christmas on the beach!
    Happy New Year.

    1. A different Christmas on the beach to yours for sure. Dogs are banned from our beaches in the summer but make the most of it in the winter.

  7. It was pretty amazing - but brought the cold which turned the snow we got on the 23rd to cement. It is only melting today - after several days of rain. Happy New Year!

  10. Sounds perfect. We had a quiet Christmas with our good friend that watches our condo in Bellingham when we are at home in Powell River or on the road for sun and sportscations in the winter. I love the decorations and lights, it always makes me sad when they have to get put away after New Years. - Margy
